Kakamega, Kenya — The Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) completed a comprehensive inspection of sports and accommodation facilities in Kakamega County, Kenya, ahead of the 22nd edition of the FEASSA Games scheduled for later this year (12th – 23rd August 2025).
A high-level delegation comprising officials from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda undertook a four-day site visit from June 30 to July 3, 2025, to assess the preparedness of Kakamega as the host city.
The inspection team wa sreceived by Nelson M. Sifuna the Director of Field Coordination and Co-curricular Activities, local Government officials headed by CPA Jackline Masicha- CECM Social Services, Gender, Sports, Youth, Culture and Library, Godfrey Owory- CECM Trade, Industrialization and Tourism, Saxon Kweyu- Chief Officer Youths, Sports and Library Services, Christine Kimunguyi – Chief Officer Social Services, Gender and Culture, KSSSA Officials, Principals of Various Education Institutions and Sports Masters.
In attendance were Members of National Sports Federations of Lacrosse, Chess, Scrabble and Cricket.

Key Findings and Venue Highlights:
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) will serve as the central hub, hosting volleyball, netball, handball, chess, scrabble, table tennis, and multiple administrative functions.
Bukhungu Stadium, currently under construction, is expected to host the opening and closing ceremonies, athletics, and football, pending timely completion.
Booker Academy and St. Peters Mumias have been cleared to host swimming and inclusive games (goalball, mind games) for Special Needs Education (SNE) categories.
Kakamega High School, Musingu High, and St. Annes Musoli Girls School will provide accommodation for secondary and primary students.
Bull Ring Grounds and Police Canteen are approved for rugby and basketball respectively, with recommendations for minor upgrades.
New and Demonstration Games Introduced
Newly Included Disciplines:
Scrabble and Chess will feature for the first time in the official FEASSA Games program, expanding the mind games category.
Demonstration Sports:
Beach Volleyball, Beach Soccer, Cricket and Lacrosse will be showcased as demonstration sports, offering new opportunities for skill diversification and youth engagement.

Each Head of Delegation appreciated the work done and all noted that FEASSA Games 2025 will be a success and promised to bring a large contingent of participants.
The host County promised to stage a successful FEASSA Games ever
Uganda and Kenya will participate in all sports disciplines.
Tanzania is expected to field teams in 12 disciplines.
Rwanda will feature in 5 disciplines.
This continental mix reflects growing inclusivity and expanding competitiveness across the region.

FEASSA has urged the local organizing committee and authorities to expedite remaining works, particularly at Bukhungu Stadium and the tennis facilities at Kakamega High School, and to ensure adequate sanitation and utility services at all venues.
